We're tickled with the Bearly Missed babies and the second year of Honky Tonk CD's and Call Me Playguns are super nice too. Honky Tonk CD continues in his training and showing under the expert guidance of Brent Marsh. They did earn half a point at his last show so we feel like we're on the verge of an exciting show career.

Like a lot of folks we often find ourselves overwhelmed with things that need done. So, we've decided to cut back some on the horses. If you are in the market for a nice youngster or broodmare please contact us. We'll try to shoot you a fair price for a nice horse, that's how we try to do business. We hope you all are well and that the Lord blesses you as he has us with a good life, filled with good friends and good horses!

Take care,
Eddy and Deb

Spring has Sprung!

here's some of our babies and mares out in the pasture......

First Show- Brent Marsh / Honky Tonk CD

Feb 10, 2007 CPRHA Show Columbus, NE. We do want to wish everyone a blessed holiday season- and to share our favorite Christmas story. Peace to you and yours!

The Christmas Horse

The young couple had made their usual hurried, pre-Christmas visit to the little farm where dwelt their elderly parents with their small herd of horses. The farm had been named Lone Pine Farm because of the huge pine which topped the hill behind the farm, and through the years had become a talisman to the old man and his wife, and a landmark in the countryside. The old folks no longer showed their horses, for the years had taken their toll, but they sold a few foals each year, and the horses were their reason for joy in the morning and contentment at day's end.
Crossly, as they prepared to leave, the young couple confronted the old folks. "Why do you not at least dispose of "The Old One". She is no longer of use to you. It's been years since you've had foals from her. You should cut corners and save where you can. Why do you keep her anyway?"
The old man looked down as his worn boot scuffed at the barn floor and his arm stole defensively about the Old One's neck as he drew her to him and rubbed her gently behind the ears.
He replied softly, "We keep her because of love. Only because of love."
Baffled and irritated, the young folks wished the old man and his wife a Merry Christmas and headed back toward the city as darkness stole through the valley. So it was, that because of the leave-taking, no one noticed the insulation smouldering on the frayed wires in the old barn. None saw the first spark fall. None but the "Old One".
In a matter of minutes, the whole barn was ablaze and the hungry flames were licking at the loft full of hay. With a cry of horror and despair, the old man shouted to his wife to call for help as he raced to the barn to save their beloved horses. But the flames were roaring now, and the blazing heat drove him back. He sank sobbing to the ground, helpless before the fire's fury. By the time the fire department arrived, only smoking, glowing ruins were left, and the old man and his wife. They thanked those who had come to their aid, and the old man turned to his wife, resting her white head upon his shoulders as he clumsily dried her tears with a frayed red bandana.
Brokenly he whispered, "We have lost much, but God has spared our home on this eve of Christmas. Let us, therefore, climb the hill to the old pine where we have sought comfort in times of despair. We will look down upon our home and give thanks to God that it has been spared."
And so, he took her by the hand and helped her up the snowy hill as he brushed aside his own tears with the back of his hand. As they stepped over the little knoll at the crest of the hill, they looked up and gasped in amazement at the incredible beauty before them. Seemingly, every glorious, brilliant star in the heavens was caught up in the glittering, snow-frosted branches of their beloved pine, and it was aglow with heavenly candles. And poised on its top most bough, a crystal crescent moon glistened like spun glass. Never had a mere mortal created a Christmas tree such as this.
Suddenly, the old man gave a cry of wonder and incredible joy as he pulled his wife forward. There, beneath the tree, was their Christmas gift. Bedded down about the "Old One" close to the trunk of the tree, was the entire herd, safe. At the first hint of smoke, she had pushed the door ajar with her muzzle and had led the horses through it. Slowly and with great dignity, never looking back, she had led them up the hill, stepping daintily through the snow. The foals were frightened and dashed about. The skittish yearlings looked back at the crackling, hungry flames, and tucked their tails under them as they licked their lips and hopped like rabbits. The mares pressed uneasily against the "Old One" as she moved calmly up the hill and to safety beneath the pine.
And now, she lay among them and gazed at the faces of those she loved. Her body was brittle with years, but the golden eyes were filled with devotion as she offered her gift - Because of love. Only Because of love.

~Love,
Eddy and Deb

Where does time go?

Well, here we are in the middle of summer already!!

Breeding season is winding down, hay season is rolling on and we're all worn out!! We had an extremely good foal crop this year and we're tickled with all the new "kids". Honky Tonk CD's babies are super athletic, with really nice heads, good deep chests and lots of substance in their "britches"!! He had just a few foals last year so we had an idea what they'd be like, but were extra pleased with them. Call Me Playgun's babies are also super cute, compact and quick with really nice heads also- as an added bonus they are very colorful!! He has a dorsal stripe under his gray color and put several babies on the ground that right now appear DUN- go figure. I dug into his pedigree a bit and it appears that the great mare, Miss Silver Pistol had some roan and dun in her pedigree. All we can figure is that it's coming from her side and hides under the gray color as they get older. Our filly by Bearly Missed continues to impress us with her personality and looks so we're looking forward to his foals next spring. We hear from the owner of his daughter that's running barrels that they are doing well with her and are quite pleased with her talent and speed. Our thanks to all of our loyal friends and customers for making this breeding season pleasant and successful.

God Bless,
Eddy and Deb

Can you Believe May is Here Tomorrow???

Hope this finds everyone doing well!

We're all fine but busy here. The baby above is the "Bubba" filly that was born the end of Feb. We're really tickled with her. We have several on the ground now and lots more to go. So far, they are a nice set of colts. Breeding season is starting in earnest so we're running a hundred miles an hour all the time from here out.

I don't know if anyone read the article in Quarter Horse News on cloning, but it was pretty in-depth as far as opinions expressed by the big breeders, etc. Our own feelings are still mixed on the subject, but I found it interesting that one of the next mares that might be done is Bearly Doc. She is "Bubba's" dam and she's 30 years old this year. At about $150,000.00 a pop for a clone, Lindy Burch must think a lot of the old gal. It will be interesting to watch how things progress in this area.

We finally got some rain here and even though it's muddy we're thankful for it. It's nice to see things greening up. If you're in the area, give us a call and stop by, we'd love to see you.

God Bless,

Eddy and Deb

Spring is really here!

Well, spring is here for real....
First babies and a winter snowstorm.....

Our first "Bubba" baby was born the last weekend of February. Her mom is a nice daughter of Smart LittleCalboy out of an own daughter of Sugar Bars. This nice mare also came from the Roach's who were the previous owners of Bearly Missed (Bubba). We heard from one of the folks that bought another mare in foal to him and were presented with a super nice palomino colt out of her. We're looking forward to pictures!! We've also done some investigating and were pleased to learn that Bubba's first cutter was 3rd in the NW Futurity last fall in the Non-Pro division. Another of his babies has won her first two "outs" as a barrel racer. We want to congratulate the owners and wish them continued success.

The Botkins in Valley Falls, KS are the proud owners of Honky Tonk CD's first baby of the year. They got a pretty chestnut filly with roan hairs everywhere! We look forward to pictures and we'll post them soon.

During the weekend of the 10th thru the 12th of March we attended the Nebraska Horse Expo at the www.RanchBrowser.com booth. There was a LARGE crowd and it looked like everyone had a ball.

The weekend of March 18 and 19 Deb attended an excellent equine reproduction short course in Decatur, NE. The course was given by the crew from www.equine-reproduction.com and was the best of its kind that she's been to. It was packed with practical advise and tips and good review for techniques for getting older and "problem" mares in foal. For anyone thinking of attending this kind of course we'd recommend this one for sure!

Mother nature played a pretty good early April Fools joke and dumped about a foot and a half of heavy, wet snow on us from the morning of March 19 until the morning of March 21st.... we needed the moisture, but geez- what a miserable way to get it!!

Until next time, take care and God Bless,
Eddy and Deb

He's HERE!!!

Bubba is HOME!!!
These pictures were taken last week when Eddy got home with the new boy. Since he left I've had 2 "jail breaks" and the weather has changed from 40-50 degrees with sunshine to 20 degrees with 30 mph wind and SNOW!!

We're excited to get Bubba home and we also purchased a well bred little red mare in foal to him. Sugars Little Calgal is a 1991 model by Smart Little Calboy. She's due to foal the first part of March so we'll have a "Bubba" baby to show everyone. Part of the plan with Bubba is to cross him back on some of our Smart Little Lena bred girls and this should give us an idea how that will work.

The other "Boyz" are getting all rev'd up for breeding season since our weather had been warm and sunny enough that some of the young mares are cycling.... No doubt all of the 4 leggeds are wishing for the speedy return of the sun too. Honky Tonk CD and Call Me Playgun have been team sorting a little- they seem to like it and it's a nice change of pace from cutting- even if it's pretty similar. The old man, Nu Profit, spends his time watching everything and commenting on his likes and dislikes from his corner stall. At 25 years old, he's still pretty sure he can keep all those youngsters in line!

Our friend, Bud Fox, in California has decided to cut back on his horse family so there are several well-bred prospects available for purchase. I'll be listing them on the website- so check back soon.

I think that's all the news for now- it's time for hot chocolate!

Changes Abound!!

Hi All,

Well, it's a "done deal"- Bubba is coming home early next month. They've purchased several of our better prospects in the last few months and we are looking for great things from out on the west coast.

In an effort to stay up to date on breeding information, Deb is going to a reproduction seminar in March. We've heard great things about the folks putting this weekend class on and look for it to add useful information to our breeding knowledge. Eddy's going to try to attend a working cowhorse training seminar also. Our heads will be full of new information!!

Feel free to drop us a line and tell us what you think of the look of the new website. Go to http://www.ranchbrowser.com to check out a cool new service- and look for their booth at the Nebraska Horse Expo in March!

Until next time, God Bless-
Eddy and Deb

COMING TO NEBRASKA FOR 2006

We are very excited to announce the imminent arrival of Bearly Missed, 1996 stallion by Miss N Cash out of the great mare Bearly Doc. A New Year, a new look.

We really want to thank all of our customers and friends for your support in 2005. We have met some extrodinary folks through the horse "family" and feel extremely fortunate.

2006 should be an exciting year. We have some changes in the works that we're looking forward to sharing as soon as we firm things up. We should have a really fun foal crop as the first Call Me Playgun babies arrive and our first Honky Tonk Cd's make an appearance. Please check out all the additions and modifications to the website- we'd love to hear feedback. We're excited to see how our friend, Sara Schafer's, www.ranchbrowser.com works out.
